TRANSITIONING VETERANS

What is the Veteran Recruitment Appointment (VRA)?

VRA is a special hiring authority designed just for veterans that allows our Agency to non-competitively appoint an eligible veteran. An eligible veteran DOES NOT need to wait for a USAJOBS announcement before applying.

You may qualify under VRA if you:

  • Served during a war or are in receipt of a campaign badge for service in a campaign or expedition; OR
  • Are a Disabled Veteran, OR
  • Are in receipt of an Armed Forces Service Medal for participation in a military operation, OR
  • Are a recently separated veteran (within 3 years of discharge), AND
  • Separated under honorable conditions (honorable or general).
     

What is Needed to Qualify for VRA as a PFPA Police Officer?

  • You must demonstrate at least one (1) year of law enforcement and/or security experience on your resume.
  • If separating from Active Duty, you will need a Statement of Service Letter showing your separation date and type of discharge.
  • Members of the Armed Forces that are retiring, generally, must wait 180 days before being appointed to a civilian position within the Department of War, unless a waiver is granted. Consideration for submitting a request for a waiver is on a case-by-case basis.
