New Explosive Detection K-9 in Training: An Interview with PFPA Sergeant Sarah Austin
Sergeant Sarah Austin is a founding member of the PFPA K-9 program. In this video, she talks about her experience as a K-9 Handler, the upcoming retirement of K-9 Honza, and the rigorous training her new partner – Jett – must undergo to meet PFPA standards for explosive detection K-9s. PFPA K-9 Unit is comprised of the Person-Borne Improvised Explosives Device and Explosives Device Detection Programs, which are responsible for the DoW community in and around the National Capital Region. The K-9 Unit is organized into teams - canine and handler - that provide both proactive and reactive law enforcement functions designed to ensure a safe working environment at the Pentagon Reservation and other DoW delegated facilities.
