+ March 6, 2010: Pentagon Entrance To Resume Normal Operations

The Pentagon entrance, adjacent to the Pentagon Metro Transit Center, will resume normal business operations commencing Monday, March 8th at 5 a.m. The upper bus platform and both entrances to the Pentagon Metrorail station were re-opened today at 6 p.m.

+ March 5, 2010: WMATA Bus and Train Service Update

The Pentagon Metrorail station and the lower level of the Pentagon Transit Center have reopened now that the Federal Bureau of Investigation has finished a portion of its investigation into a shooting that took place Thursday evening, March 4, on the sidewalk near the station entrance and adjacent to the bus bays.

The north entrance to the Pentagon Metrorail station reopened as of 12:05 p.m. today, March 5. The southern entrance remains closed.

All Metrobuses that service the Pentagon Transit Center will provide service from the lower level of the Pentagon Transit Center as of 1 p.m. Regional bus providers such as ART, DASH, Fairfax Connector, Loudoun County and PRTC will continue to provide bus service from the Pentagon City Metrorail station or their alternate locations due to limited space. PRTC buses are located at 11th and Eads streets.

Once the FBI is finished with its work along the upper level of the Transit Center, regular bus pick-up and drop-off areas will be back in use.

For Pentagon Employees: DoD Shuttle buses will continue to drop off and pick up at the Corridor 3 Kiss and Drop. Pentagon tenants who wish to access the Metro Transit Center will need to exit the building via Corridor 3.

+ March 5, 2010: PFPA Updated Statement

Last night at approximately 6:40 pm, John Patrick Bedell, 36, approached Pentagon Police Officers Jeffery Amos and Marvin Carraway who were located at their security checkpoint, adjacent to the Pentagon metro entrance facility.

Mr. Bedell produced a handgun and began firing at the officers while he tried to enter the building. Officer's Amos and Carraway were grazed by the fire, returned gun fire and neutralized him before he reached the building.

Pentagon Force Protection Agency medics immediately rendered first aid to the injured officers and Mr. Bedell. The two officers along with Mr. Bedell were transported to George Washington University Hospital. Officers Amos and Carraway were treated and released while Mr. Bedell died at approximately 10 p.m. from gunshot wounds.

The investigation is currently underway and is a collaborative effort among the FBI, Pentagon Force Protection Agency, and Metro Police.

The Pentagon Metrorail station and Pentagon Transit Centers were closed shortly before 10 p.m. last night and remain closed to allow the FBI to investigate the crime scene. An update will be provided when re-opened.

+ March 4, 2010: Pentagon Statement on Metro Entrance Shooting

A shooting incident has occurred at the Pentagon Metro Entrance this evening at approximately 6:40 p.m. EST. Two Pentagon Force Protection Agency (PFPA) officers were injured when an unknown suspect fired at them. The suspect was injured in return fire from the PFPA officers. Injuries to the two PFPA officers do not appear to be life threatening. A suspect is in custody and his condition is unknown. All three injured have been taken to a local hospital. All Pentagon entrances were secured for a brief time but have since been reopened with the exception of the Pentagon Metro entrance. The incident is under investigation. More details will be released when available.

+ March 4, 2010: Press update on Pentagon Shooting

Pentagon Police Chief Richard Keevill will conduct a media availability Friday, March 5 at 6 a.m EST to provide an update on the shooting incident that took place at the Pentagon on Thursday evening, March 4. The availability will be held at Lot 6 located at South Joyce Street and Columbia Pike, across from the Navy Exchange (NEX) gas station.


**The Pentagon Metro Entrance and the Pentagon Metro rail and bus facility are closed until further notice.

** Note: As a result of the active crime scene in the area of the Pentagon Metro Entrance Facility, all metro trains and buses are bypassing the Pentagon until further notice. Those trains and buses will stop at Pentagon City stops until further notice. It is requested that you take this into consideration if you normally get off at the Pentagon (via train or bus).

+ February 11, 2010: Access to the Pentagon Reservation

As OPM announced tonight, Federal agencies in the Washington, DC area will re-open Friday, February 12, 2010.

All previously closed Pentagon entrances will resume their normal hours of operations beginning at 5 am.

Pentagon Reservation parking will be limited due to the vast snow collection and removal. Personnel are encouraged to carpool and use public transportation to the greatest extent possible.

+ February 9, 2010: Access to the Pentagon Reservation

As OPM announced, Federal agencies in the Washington, DC area are closed. While closed, access to the Pentagon is restricted to the normal weekend/holiday entrances.

When the Federal agencies are re-opened, Pentagon Reservation parking will still be significantly impacted by the vast snow collection and removal. Personnel are encouraged to carpool and use public transportation to the greatest extent possible.
